The importance of UI
Data centers usually deploy one or more automatic transfer switches to switch between utility and standby power. In case of power interruption or failure, the transfer switch sends a start command to the connected standby diesel generator, and then provides power when generating power. Once the utility power is restored, the transfer switch switches to the mains power supply and sends the shutdown command to the diesel generator.
The power infrastructure of the data center includes one or more UI power supplies. UI has two key uses: to protect it equipment from spikes and to provide short-term power in the event of a power failure. When the mains power input is normal, UI will supply the power supply to the load after voltage stabilization. At this time, the UI is an AC mains voltage regulator, and it also charges the battery in the machine. When the mains power is interrupted (emergency power failure), the UI will supply the load The power of the battery inside the machine is immediately supplied to the load with 220 V AC by means of inverter conversion, so as to maintain the normal operation of the load and protect the software and hardware of the load from damage. Another common power infrastructure component is the power distribution unit (PDU), an advanced power outlet that takes power from UI power and distributes it to it systems. Distribution units (PDUs) do not generate power spikes, which is why distribution units (PDUs) are usually used with UI power supplies. PDU is also known as the power distribution socket for cabinet. PDU is a product designed to provide power distribution for cabinet mounted electrical equipment. It has a variety of series specifications with different functions, installation methods and different plug-in combinations, which can provide suitable rack type power distribution solutions for different power supply environments. Its power regulation and routing are completed through switch cabinet or main distribution board and transformer. This ensures that the supply voltage and current output is normal. The equipment configuration depends on the size of the data center, the number and type of IT systems.
How to ensure continuous operation
The data center power infrastructure must provide power for other equipment in the data center facility, such as lighting, alarms, sensors, fire monitors, cooling devices, and dehumidifiers. Its power infrastructure must also provide power to it systems, such as servers, storage devices, and network components, so that they can operate uninterrupted even if power is lost.
During normal operation, the power supply targeting it system will continuously run through UI power supply. The UI power supply ensures that the connected battery is fully charged and is ready to support emergency operation. Depending on the number and type of batteries, batteries can provide enough power to enable it systems to operate in a short period of time.
UI can be divided into three types: offline, online interactive and online. If the mains power is interrupted, the UI power supply will switch to the power supply state, convert it to AC and send it to the PDU. on-line
